A citrusy, light and quaffable dry white that is a blend of a native Spanish variety and Sauvignon. The highland region of Utiel-Requena has long produced a high volume of grapes, having an ideal climate for viticulture. Though much of this was sold off for underwhelming bulk wine historically, the region has now begun producing much higher quality wines yet without much higher prices. Organically farmed, low sulfites added and no other additives. A 3 liter box is the same as 4 regular bottles of wine and is more energy efficient for shipping, plus the price of this wine is nearly halved per ounce compared to the bottle.
From the mouth of the importer (Vine Collective):
"In the Northeast corner of the District of Utiel-Requena lie the vineyards of the Sierra Norte Winery, a winery run currently by the third generation of winemakers. The 367-hectare Finca Fuente Seca estate lies in Utiel Requena, a high and rugged plateau nearly 1,000 meters above sea level (soils are from the Jurassic and Cretaceous period). Hot, dry summers, cold nights and poor limestone terrain make the area ideal for organic farming. Diurnal temperature fluctuations are up to 20 ° C, and a rainfall throughout the year of about 400 ml. With early rains in spring and late fall, and the special soil this makes these vineyards unique within their Valencian neighbors. There is a maximum amout of sulfites allowed for the organic certification of EU wines. Fuente Seca only uses a portion of that for their winemaking, about 70mg/l versus the 100mg/l allowed in the red wines. Organic. Vegan Friendly."
