Absolutely stunningly crisp and light rose from California's Ryan Stirm. A true wunderkind at making new world Riesling and Gruner, he has taken his talents to a highly unorthodox blend of old vine grapes from Lime Kiln Valley AVA in the Central Coast. Yellow gummi bears and tart berries.
Notes from the producer:
"Another 2016 from the Enz Vineyard, this rosé is made from the same two blocks of old vines as the Gabilan Blanc. It is comprised primarily of the Mission grape (50 percent), Mataro (25 percent), Carignan (20 percent) and about 5 percent is a mix of Orange Muscat, Alicante Bouschet, Zinfandel, and Cabernet Pfeffer. This odd mix of varieties is actually rather common in the northern part of the central coast/east Contra Costa county plantings dating back to the late 1800’s. The idea behind this wine was to make a true field blend, utilizing the full diversity of grape genetics offered from this historic vineyard. This is a robust rosé, with a firm structure from the tannins developed at this warm, mountain influenced site. This rosé is copper/salmon colored resulting from no skin contact and elevage in stainless steel. Like all of our wines, it was spontaneously fermented and went through full malolactic fermentation; bottled un-fined/unfiltered with minimal sulfur (25 ppm total SO2)."
