A dry, medium-bodied white with deep yellow fruit flavors. Ribolla Gialla is a variety native to the northeastern Italy region of Friuli and neighboring Slovenia. The vines i Clivi organically grow in Friuli are 30 years old, giving the wines an innate maturity and concentration. No oaking or malolactic fermentation, left unfined and fermented with native yeasts.
From the mouth of the importer (Weygandt-Metzler):
"i Clivi's viticulture can be described by 3 basic elements: (a) very old vines - at least 60 years of age, but many are 80 or over - for natural concentration, complexity and elegance as well as marked individuality and strong character; (b) certified organic cultivation; and c) all vineyards are on the hillside, with perfect exposition (south-east) and ideal water drainage. These wines boast extraordinary complexity with a richness of flavors and brilliant minerality for an unforgettable drinking experience. The native varietals of Ribolla Giala, Friulano, ancient Malvasia and Verduzzo here are whole-cluster vinified on native yeasts, aged on the lees, unfined and unfiltered in old barrel or tank. You simply can't find more natural wines."
