Austria is in many ways the epicenter of the natural wine movement and Alexander Koppitsch is among the winemakers there adhering to the philosophy of biodynamics. Handpicking all the grapes, using wild yeasts, eschewing additives and for this red only very lightly filtering and sulfuring. The Rot #7 is a blend of 55% Zweigelt, 20 % Blaufränkisch, 20% St. Laurent and 5% Syrah.

"Like his father and grandfather before him, Alex does not believe in introducing any additives into the grapes or the wine. They use Rudolf Steiner’s biodynamic principles to cultivate their grapes, and pride themselves on performing every aspect of the vineyard management and the winemaking by hand, on a very small scale."
